Yucatán
The Yucatán culinary region is in a world of its own due to its location at the edge of Mexico’s curling peninsula. Its fare is “among Mexico’s most unusual,” according to Chef Rick Bayless, due to its wide variety of cuisine influences, including Arab, Lebanese and Dutch. Operators should highlight Yucatán cuisine on their menus by offering dishes that feature a fusion of flavors from more than one type of cuisine. Bold flavorings distinguish the Yucatán despite it being the least sampled culinary region of Mexico; however, it is the second most visited culinary region with half of consumers wanting to see more Yucatán influences on menus.
